Better Burger Food Truck

The first food truck I’ve ever been to was definitely a hit! We were up in Salt Lake for a Bees baseball game and realized up the street was this food truck that I’ve had bookmarked for a while now. I was still on my vegetarian kick (which only lasted two weeks)  so I ordered the Veggie Burger and was not disappointed.

The Veggie Burger was good but I am a newbie when it comes to veggie burgers. Unfortunately, the gluten-free bun was not so great. So I ended up removing the bun and just eating the burger and ordered the fried egg on top. The first bite was dry but then I added some mustard and ketchup it was much better. I could not get enough of their ketchup. I would say without the fried egg on top it wouldn’t have been as good. photo (51)

This milkshake reached beyond my expectations. Brown Haired Boy and I both do not enjoy ice cream that much. I know how could we? But reading the reviews and the menu saying it used fresh fruit with Utah’s local Farrs’ ice cream I couldn’t pass it up. Originally I was hoping the fruit of the day was peaches and almost didn’t order it because it wasn’t. However the raspberry milkshake was amazing. I could not get enough. I didn’t finish the burger and ignored my fries because the shake was so good. Don’t worry I went back to the fries after the ball game. They were good. I am obsessed with sweet potato fries so whenever they are on the menu I have to order them. I’m always on the hunt for the best sweet potato fries in Utah. My husband on the other hand loves regular potato french fries. He still liked these but said they were too sweet-potato-y for him. They were cooked in canola oil and I found them to be perfect and I felt healthy eating them. I think it was just missing a great sauce to be paired with. photo (52)

This food truck is known to feature local products and use grass-fed meat which is why I had it on the top of my list. BHBoy ordered the garlic burger. He loved it. I was definitely jealous. He loves anything with garlic and said it wasn’t over the top garlic-y which was perfect in his book.

We will definitely be back to this food truck. I hope next time they will have the peach and I will try a different burger. I am so glad it was my first! You know what they say about your first, you never forget it!

Grilla Bites

I’m losing my mind. I swear I already wrote a review on this place. Maybe it was just a dream? We had a Groupon deal for this place for a lot more money than we needed; which was great because we got to try a lot of items. It’s hard to find good gluten free restaurants so when I looked at their menu I was really excited. Once we got there I was not disappointed either. Brown Haired Boy can tell you that I can get disappointed easily and real fast. Horrible trait that I have. I need to work on it.

I pretty much created the sandwich. The manager was helping us and she was the chillest employee I’ve ever met. She was all about keeping the customer happy. Loved it! The creation was a turkey cranberry sandwich with lettuce, cucumber, and avocado, on gluten-free bread. I ate that thing right up. Didn’t really bother with the veggies and hummus though. I would have if that was all I ordered but there was still more things to try.

Mega Green Smoothie Fresh: spinach, kale and parsley blended with bananas, yogurt and apple juice. The smoothie was really good. But tasted a lot like something I would make at home. Didn’t finish it because the brownie definitely stole the show.

Bison Hot Dog: Grilled grass-fed bison hot dog served with grilled onions, spinach and tomatoes (nitrate free, preservative free, additive free) This is what BHB ordered and he loved it. I know when he loves it because he finished it. He doesn’t finish things he doesn’t care for. Makes sense. He wanted the hot dogs to be on our grocery list.

Gluten-Free Brownie: Need I say more? Honestly so good. I am a huge brownie fan. Especially if you say its gluten-free you’ve got my attention. I still can’t think of Brownies as dessert. My Mom would send us out the door each morning with a brownie and milk. That was our breakfast. Perfect Mom right?

Strawberry-Basil Gluten-free Cookie: strange-but-good. Loved this combination. I want to recreate this instantly! BHB loved it and finished it off.

photo (51)Gluten-Free Caramel Toffee Cookie: Good and glad we tried it. But the brownie had all of my attention.

I definitely want to go back. I wish I worked in the area that it is in. The perfect lunch spot. Awesome service and really fast. I want to try everything on the menu. Way better than a Great Harvest, Subway, or Quizinos- Yuck.

Great quality food. Perfect for foodies looking for something quick! I’d go in just for the brownie. . .every week.

5 Star BBQ

Brown Haired boy chose this place after seeing it bookmarked on my yelp page. It was the perfect meal before our vegetarian challenge, more like my vegetarian challenge. More on that for another post.

5 Star BBQ was not what I expected, in a good way of course. It’s in an area where the steel plants use to be so it is kind of deserted area. I feel bad because if you are not looking for it you will definitely not see it and miss out on the best bbq restaurant I’ve had in Utah. We walked in and was unsure where to order, or if we were suppose to wait to be seated. It was kind of confusing because we were not greeted or spoken to right away.

After looking at the menu I knew exactly what I was ordering. Little did I know it was way too much. Did I still finish it. . . pretty much. I ordered the smoked pork combo with ribs, side of corn bread, and coleslaw. BHBoy got the Brisket with the same sides. They do not mess around with the portion sizes.

We absolutely loved the meat, coleslaw, and amazing cornbread. Also the numerous BBQ sauces to choose from. The best one was the house. But they had spicy, sweet, house, dark, and a weird one that we are both blanking on (bad food bloggers right here). The coleslaw was really good and a good coleslaw is hard to come by; however we got sick of it after a while. It had a lot of mustard in it.

The ribs did not have enough meat on it. I say that because they were so delicious that only a tiny piece on the bone did not work for us. Plenty of paper towels were used for our napkins. I even put a bib on. What I am not embarrassed but BHB probably was of me.

The Brisket is the picture above with beans. BHB didn’t care much for the beans but loved the brisket. These pictures don’t even display how much coleslaw there was. Literally the size of our faces. It was hard to stop eating even though we both got sick of it. I mean it was just staring at us and we were still sitting there. . . it just happens sometimes. I am always looking for the best corn bread. The best yet has been from Bobby Flay’s restaurant Mesa Grill but this one is definitely delicious. photo (63)

We were so uncomfortably full after this meal. We ate it so fast it was our fault. I went into it not even thinking about gluten. Terrible of me. But I really just didn’t even want to think about my intolerance for once. I thought ignorance was bliss. Oh man did I pay for it. We headed straight home and didn’t move from the couch the rest of the night.

You don’t really interact much with the employees but they were very nice regardless. Probably should greet their customers but other than that no complaints here! This place is definitely a place to try! I kept thinking that I had to take my Dad and brothers here.
